and possibily even more!

Message of the month of july:

It's hot, isn'it?
I mean also the weather. Commedy can be refreshing.
Laughing is the medicine of all the troubles.
If you have any of those troubles you will be cured immediately.
We will share joy, happiness and fresh fruits.
And you will take all you can and you will be playing.
If you are shy you will be open, like a juicy and sweet watermelon with no seeds, you will shine in the sunshine and sleep on the moon and we will take care of you.
Because your joy is all we need.

Advance Tickets are only £4.90 so snap them up quick!

Doors 7pm

Felix M-B:
Felix released an EP, ‘The Pipes’, in March 2018, produced by Ben Walker (Josienne Clarke & Ben Walker). The release was followed with an East Coast US tour supporting Lorkin O’Reilly. The pair then toured across the UK in September '18. Now a member of Notts/London duo, Megatrain, Felix has spent much of the last year in the studio, but with new solo work in progress there are plans for more touring and releases later in 2019.

"He’s absolutely on a roll at the moment. His music is spine-tingling, chilling, the lyrics are alluring, in fact the whole thing is pretty hypnotic." ~ Dean Jackson (BBC Introducing East Mids)
"Last year's 'The Pipes' EP marked Felix out as a bold and distinctive songwriter unmatched on the scene. Whether he's appropriating trad folk songs for our modern era or simply reminding an audience what it is to have your breath taken away by music, he's always worth catching live." ~ Folkroom Records
Lorkin O'Reilly:
"Since immigrating to the United States from Scotland in 2014, Lorkin O’Reilly has been making a name for himself as a commanding new songwriting talent. His unique transatlantic approach blends old-country inspired open tunings similar to that of Bert Jansch, Nike Drake and Dick Gaughan with direct and personal reflections and poetry. His writing portrays not only his own reality, but experiences faced by most of us: the purgatory between childhood and adulthood, between new home and old home and finally the overarching struggle of finding a new identity.
Born in Edinburgh in 1994, Lorkin’s early musical education was heavily steeped in the sounds of his mother’s native Ireland. Those early influences are heard throughout his work on tracks like “Alba,” “When The Days Cool Down,” and “Tuttles Reel.”
In 2014 Lorkin moved to upstate New York to work on a farm. In the basement of the farmhouse he found an old acoustic guitar and began writing, resulting in his first E.P., After The Thaw. Recorded in a single day on two-inch tape, After The Thaw is a small body of work that tastefully sets the stage for what would become his debut album, Heaven Depends.
Heaven Depends is the result of late night-writing sessions in the kitchen after long days working construction in Poughkeepsie N.Y. With songs that range from traditional reels to twanging Townes-esque imagery, the album is a musical representation of an immigrant’s journey. Using a multitude of instruments set against a backdrop of alternative tunings and fingerpicking “Heaven Depends” invites the listener on a complicated, yet ultimately beautiful journey." ~ Team Love Records

Rude Mechanicals - Something Wicked

Music and mayhem from Miss Roberts and her rude and wicked minstrels.
Also featuring:
Cowboy Flying Saucer
MeU=MeU
+DJs Enri and Silly Boy Blue
Probably do £5 on the door again.

Rude Mechanicals
Rude Mechanicals often get compared to The Birthday Party, Tom Waits, Captain Beefheart, The Tigerlilies and early Roxy Music. Their style has been called Post-Punk, Swamp Blues, Dark Cabaret and we particularly liked a recent suggestion - Psycho Cabaret.

Tom Robinson described them as “wild, wicked weirdness... a little bit Flying Lizards, a little bit Native Hipsters and a great deal like nothing you've heard before..." (Tom Robinson BBC6 Music). They are lead by the flamboyant Miss Roberts and it is the surreal products of her imagination that permeate the band.

Cowboy Flying Saucer
Cowboy Flying Saucer is an incarnation spawned from a conversation in a Walthamstow pub. An experimental vehicle for sonic fun and adventure.

Influences: time, space, electricity, tardigrades, God Saves The Earth Flying Saucer Foundation, The Middle Ages, smoke blackened paper, spring reverb, hypnosis, isolation, beer, celestial bodies, insects, rebounding objects, internal ramblings, dreams

Jowe Head and an Infernal Contraption +The Black Lennons

Jowe Head started his musical career in 1972, a project that came to be known as Swell Maps. This group, also featuring the late Nikki Sudden and his brother Epic Soundtracks, emerged in the late 1970s, and are now known as legendary pioneers of what is now referred to as the “Alternative Rock” scene. They set up their own record label, and mixed Punk Rock with experimental psychedelic sounds. When they broke up, Jowe joined the Television Personalities, headed by another legend of UK Independent Music, Dan Treacy. Ten years with the TVPs saw Jowe making more influential records, touring Europe regularly, and playing in Japan and the USA.

His latest band is called Infernal Contraption, featuring the voice, bowed saw and Theremin of Catherine Gerbrands (Valerie’s Week of Wonder), guitars by Lee McFadden (Alternative TV), drums and percussion by Ravi-Low-Beer, and also sound-effects and guitar by Cos Chapman (Rude Mechanicals).

“Jowe Head spent time in two of the UK’s coolest underground bands: Swell Maps and Television Personalities…a lovably skewed indie-pop tunesmith.” Time Out New York 2013

“Head draws on cabaret pop, 60s cinema, dinky electronics, industrial noise, and his own multicultural imagination to put together weird ditties.” (Trouser Press, USA)

“The mad genius behind the mad genius of Swell Maps, the band who re-invented music as therapy
for northern neo-depression in the really 1980s. A man of many talents.” (Time Out, London)

The Black Lennons is a spanish band based in Cairo (Egypt). The Black Lennon’s work drew inspiration from sources such as minimal wave, psychedelia, surf music and musique concrète.
This music project is leader by Julen Palacios as the only constant member. He has played in spanish underground bands like La Femme Fakir, Los Cuantos or La Familia Atávica.

The Black Lennons’ third album “Expertos en mí” is a record of dark abstract psychedelia. It has been published by german label Psychofon Records (Felix Kubin, The Residents, DDAA) and recorded in Cairo and Béjar (Salamanca) with Adrián Ceballos (Melange, Mohama Saz, Los Cuantos) on drums.

For this gig in London will join the writer and theremin player Silvia Grijalba. She makes a colaboration along previous TBL albums.

Japan Review / Grawl!x (free entry)

Two Reckless Yes bands on the same bill. Japan Review's first outing in quite some time and the first since the release of their Juno sees an expanded line-up which means they can be quite a bit noisier. Japan Review are joined by Derby's Grawlix whose solo sets have been described as "sorcery". And they are.

Listen here:

JAPAN REVIEW

Japan Review is the experimental pop project of Adam O’Sullivan with an ever-changing line up of musicians helping to build his ethereal drone soundscapes.

Initially formed in 2014 a debut EP was written and recorded with fellow Beach Volleyball alumni Dom Ashton last year, which was released through Reckless Yes in spring 2019.

Taking influence from The Radio Dept., Four Tet, Mount Eerie and Beach House their sound may be best summed up as sad dance music.

GRAWL!X

Grawl!x is the solo project of Derby-based musician and filmmaker James Machin.

His first release with Reckless Yes is the final album in his trilogy about grief; Appendix was released in April 2018 on vinyl and digitally. It follows Good Grief (2015) and Aye! (2016) and like them has melancholy moments but are affirming, even uplifting, soundscapes of love rather than loss.

This third album sits alongside the Grawl!x written and directed short film Fleeting, and includes contributions from Haiku Salut, composer Richard J Birkin, and guest vocals from Pet Crow’s Danielle Cotterill and Mighty Kids’ Shelley Jane Newman.
